The winner will be picked at random; I’ll fire over an email to get their mail details and permission to pass that on to the publisher. If I don’t get a response from the winner, I’ll pick a backup, and after that, Patreons get dibs.

The Starter Kit was made possible by a Kickstarter campaign that earned more than $80,000 from fans, nearly 1500 of whom backed the project.

On the crowdfunding page, the game is described as;

The Starter Kit is an evolution of the original ZWEIHÄNDER game, providing both new and veteran gamers with all the tools needed to play their first fantasy horror role-playing game. It’s beginner-friendly, and backward compatible with the current ZWEIHÄNDER game line.

Fainting Goat Games have a best-selling Savage Worlds setting called The After.

The post-apocalyptic world, one in which the invading aliens have moved on, is still growing. On Kickstarter right now, from Jade Monkey Studios, there’s a campaign for Tales from the Trail Vol 2. That’s a new volume of adventures.

Jon Gibbons is a professional illustrator and lead for Tales. They describe the project;

Tales from the Trail Vol II is a compendium for THE AFTER featuring a full plot point campaign that takes place over three unique and exciting adventures. We had a large amount of feedback from backers asking for a Savage Worlds plot point campaign so naturally we listened to our fans and got the ball rolling!

Tempted?

Thanks to Fainting Goat, there’s a hard copy of The After to win. Why not a copy of Tales from the Trail Vol II? Well, Tales II isn’t a thing yet, but The After can get to you more quickly.

I’m giving five Dungeon & Dragons dice pendant necklaces bought from LoveTrixGifts on Etsy as prizes.

Dice of fire and ice design

I had a sample of LoveTrix’s ware at Tabletop Scotland and was impressed, so I thought a batch (if not bulk) purchase would make for a good set of Geek Native gifts.

Geek Native does send the occasional gift to Patron, but I can’t afford to do that here, so there’s a competition to win one. Sadly, until I win the lottery, I’ll also need to restrict this competition to the UK.

So, if you’re in the UK (or have a UK mail address I can send these to), then to win one of these gifts, you need to log into the entry counting widget below and complete missions to earn points. Each point is a chance of winning.

Also, note this isn’t a LoveTrixGift competition. It’s all on Geek Native :)

The postal situation in the UK isn’t clear as there are various pay deals, strikes and ongoing logistical challenges the country needs to work through. The competition wraps at the start of December, so I can get prizes in the post to you and perhaps in time for gift giving.

It’s not swift to collect winners’ details, and I won’t wait until I have all five and will ferry these pendants to the local post office as and when I have the addresses.

The usual delay probably comes from spam filters eating the “You have won, so please give me your mail address” email. In that situation, I try to reach the winner a few times before picking up a backup winner. If that fails, I will offer the pendants on a first-come-first-get basis to Geek Native patrons. Tip: Make sure you allowlist @geeknative.com so my email can get to you in case you win.

Ralph Macchio’s Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me is out.

Actually, Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me is Amazon’s top seller in the martial arts biographies section, and so we learn there’s a category of books called ‘martial arts biography’.

Ralph Macchio hasn’t gone a week without hearing ‘Wax On, Wax Off’ or ‘Sweep the Leg!’ since 1984. Now that Macchio is playing Daniel LaRusso in the Netflix drama Cobra Kai, he’s ready to revisit the film that defined him and offer fans what they’ve long wanted. Macchio’s book celebrates The Karate Kid’s legacy in movies, pop culture, and his life, and it’s a deep look at a film that inspired him and the globe.

Readers in the UK can enter the competition below. To win, you must log into the widget, complete quests for points, be picked randomly, and respond to the winner’s email if you get that far.

(Ends 14 Nov 2022)

In the book, Macchio tells the untold narrative behind his starring role, the audition process, the filmmaking experience, and the genesis of the film’s most memorable moments. This sentimental novel will bring readers back to the day they first met Daniel LaRusso, Johnny Lawrence, and Mr. Miyagi. It also gives a fascinating lens into how our pasts shape us and how the past may come back to enrich one’s present in powerful, surprising, and amazing ways.

The Dutton-published book is over 250-pages long and came out in October.

It’s been a bit of a logistics battle, but it looks like Titan Comic’s Horizon Zero Dawn: Peach Momoko Poster Portfolio is on the way to shops.

The £20 compilation of cover art is on track for an October 25 release, and you can try and win a copy here.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a computer roleplaying game from Guerrilla and set in a world dominated by wild machines, the sequel Horizon Forbidden West came out this year, and Netflix is working on a TV series.

Peach Momoko is a fan-favourite and hugely talented comic book artist and writer. Peach is an excellent match for Horizon Zero Dawn, with Aloy, the protagonist, having once described inspiration from bishojo art in her own to “fuse the power of a girl with her inner madness, weaponry, and propaganda.”

Thanks to Titan Comics, Geek Native has one copy for a giveaway in a competition open to the UK (or people with a mailing address here). To win, you must log in to the widget and complete tasks to earn points. Each point is a ticket in the draw; you won’t be asked to spam or tag friends.

Titan Comics describes the book;

Peach Momoko’s incredible cover art for the comic series of Horizon Zero Dawn is now collected into a unique portfolio. Each cover is specially designed as a pull-out poster, including never-before-seen artwork! Horizon: a far-future Earth full of epic natural beauty and forgotten ruins, where awe-inspiring, animal-like machines are the dominant species and humans struggle to survive in pre-industrial tribes.

This year, Even Footing Games released the tabletop roleplaying game Babies and Broadswords.

Babies and Broadswords cover - showing a warforged baby and goblin baby sneaking towards cookies

Yep! Babies and Broadswords! Imagine your typical fantasy adventure, perhaps something with dragons and dungeons; now put the ages of the so-called heroes at around four and change the danger appropriately. You can now buy these hijinks for $14.99 from DriveThruRPG.

This month, Even Footing Games published Crawl of Cthulhu. It’s a Babies and Broadswords adventure.

Yep! Crawl of Cthulhu! Imagine a Call of Cthulhu game, except this time the would-be-heroes are four, and strange noises and events are happening in Hallways of Lady Chastity’s Home For Unwanted Children and Other Errors in Judgment. You can buy Crawl of Cthulhu now for $9.99 from DriveThruRPG.

You can also win both in this bundle offer, kindly made possible by Even Footing Games, by entering and winning the competition below. The horror! You need to log into the widget, which manages entries for me. I’ll email the winner to follow up; if there’s no response, I’ll pick a backup winner and finally offer the bundle to a Patreon if the gods of chance are being mean.

Not sure what to expect? Even Footing Games say that Crawl of Cthulhu is much funnier than Lovecraft.

Crawl of Cthulhu is a complete adventure module for the Babies and Broadswords d6 system. It can be played separately or integrated with your on-going Babies and Broadswords campaign. With a bunch of new classes, locations, items, and mechanics, this module is a must-have for your Babies and Broadswords collection. You must have it. Muuuust haaaave iiiit. You’re getting very sleepy.

Babies and Broadswords is a d6 system, and all the rules are in the core book, along with six character classes (like the Barbabyian), cute illustrations and over 20 monsters and NPCs. It also has adventures set in Lady Chastity’s.

You can download Pay What You Want Character Sheets for it too.

Like your competitions? The 17th of October is the last day for the Chaos Curios candles.

I had the good fortune of finding Chaos Curios, a geeky Scottish crafter, while attending Tabletop Scotland this year.

Dice melts

From Chaos, I bought several DnD Dice Wax Melts, candles in a tin and decorated with nerdy stuff. I’ve two small ones to give away as competition prizes.

If you’re not feeling lucky, you can buy these online and from either Etsy or the Chaos Curios Shopify.

To enter the competition, you must have a British mail address and complete the task the widget sets out. Can’t see the task? You’ll need to log in. Yep, sorry, the widget randomly picks the winners and does its best to thwart cheats, so it’s a necessary step.

Please note that you’ll get a randomly selected candle. It’ll be the same deal as the one you see here; wax in a tin with clever geeky art sculpts on top. That said, it probably won’t be the one photographed. I think the giveaway candles have a bit of a Halloween vibe.

Roz, the owner of Chaos Curios, has several names on their about page. There’s the Chaos Crafter, Maker of Chains and the Queen of the Click Clacks and relevant to this competition, there’s also the Forger of Dice Wax Melts.

The Generation Killer is a supernatural crime series described as Line of Duty meets Rivers of London.

The Generation Killer

Adam Simcox’s sequel to The Dying Squad is one where the detective is already dead. We’re solving mysteries that the living cannot. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon;

There’s a new serial killer on the streets of Manchester – and only a dead cop can stop them.

Detective Joe Lazarus works for the Dying Squad, solving crimes the living police can’t. When the Generation Killer starts wiping out Manchester’s innocents, Joe and his new partner Bits have mere hours to catch the murderer. A young woman’s life depends on it.

Joe’s former partner Daisy-May has her own problems. Children are going missing in the afterlife, and she’s the only one who seems to care. Her investigation uncovers a conspiracy so vast, it threatens both the living and the dead.

Her predecessor the Duchess can’t help this time; she’s tracked her treacherous sister, Hanna, to Tokyo, where she’s been recruiting the dead. The Duchess must enlist the help of a local detective if she’s to have any choice of stopping her.

Time is running out for the Dying Squad. And if they can’t crack their cases, it’s the living that will pay…

The book is due on August 18th, and you can win a copy here. You need to be based in the UK/have a UK postal address; you need to enter and win the competition in the widget below.
