‘I need to continually reinvent who I am’: Pete Markey on becoming ISBA president
ISBA’s new president and Boots CMO discusses his priorities for his tenure and the importance of community in a “lonely” senior marketing role.
Pete Markey is no stranger to helping steer the ship of a century-old organisation. In 2021, he joined 175-year-old Boots as CMO, following an almost four-year stint as CMO at 200-year-old TSB Bank.
Now, in addition to his role at Boots, Markey has been appointed president of 124-year-old industry body ISBA.
“Throughout my career, I need to continually reinvent who I am and what I do to stay fresh, relevant and modern in the same way brands do,” he tells Marketing Week.
Markey was vice-president of ISBA since 2019 and has been a member for the majority of his career. As vice-president, he worked alongside Unilever’s Sarah Mansfield in a “dynamic duo”, reporting to former ISBA president, NatWest’s Margaret Jobling.
