‘Still horrible’: Marketing recruiters and jobseekers on the current state of the market
Recruiters and jobseekers are continuing to struggle in the current landscape, with few jobs and opportunities leaving brands taking advantage of the ‘buyer’s market’.
Marketing recruitment is in a bad place, and has been since early 2023. More senior marketers are out of work than ever, redundancies and restructures are rife, low-balled salaries the norm and convoluted interview processes increasingly common. These are the experiences of many in the market, and it doesn’t seem to be showing much sign of improvement.
However, these appointments and changes hardly scratch the surface of what the industry is currently dealing with. “It’s still a really horrible market,” says Alastair Pegg, an experienced senior marketer across a range of businesses, including McCarthy Stone, Nationwide and The Co-op Bank.
