Howdy, it’s the first Friday after UK Games Expo, and it’s back to writing up the RPG news summary.

Let’s see what happened since the Expo and dig into those summaries;

  • The Elden Ring RPG isn’t cancelled.
  • The Witcher RPG isn’t cancelled.
  • OneBookShelf published a Big Bad Con supporting mega bundle.
  • Hasbro’s boss bets on middle-aged gamers.
  • UK Games Expo apologises for an error which banned queer-themed RPGs.
  • GAMA Expo moves to Louisville despite it being Kentucky.
  • Battlefield Press is an admirable battle to survive.

Did you go to the UK Games Expo, readying for Big Ban Con or Gen Con? Let us know in the comments or pop over to the Discord to coordinate meet-ups with other gamers.

Conventions tend to make for busy news cycles, but what you might miss as a blogger is weird. I’m late and slow on the news that UK Games Expo is apologising for not allowing queer-themed RPGs. While I was there, which is a day longer than most, I saw plenty of (probably) queer gamers. Hand on heart, it felt like a safe space.

I can only imagine that an American con feels like, or a French one, or say, a South African one.

Right, let’s see what the news looks like right now.

This is weird. It’s UK Games Expo, and your editor is there, not writing this post.

This week’s Routinely Itemised was penned on Wednesday night. Therefore, this is the same Routinely Itemised RPG news summary but truncated. It may get updates during the event.

It’s the news so far, and let’s see those summaries;

  • Drow has (must be) dropped by Paizo for Pathfinder Remastered.
  • The new Roll20 is out.
  • The official Lara Croft Tomb Raider TTRPG is free.
  • Jonathan Hicks announced A Dark Star to Sail By.

The Spotlight winner for this month is Lone Colossus Games.

Before rushing off to UKGE, there was just about time to tally the Patron votes for the July shortlist. Candidates are;

It’s the last Friday before the UK Games Expo, the biggest tabletop convention Geek Native will attend this year. Not sure what that means for this RPG news summary next Friday, but for now

The summary of RPG news summaries!

  • Critical Role’s Darrington Press’s and a Candela Obscura Quickstart Guide for their new RPG.
  • Kobold Press is having a great time on Kickstarter funding their D&D-not-D&D with Tales of the Valiant.
  • The cost of D&D books is going up.
  • PazioCon Online is on right now.
  • Wizards of the Coast share 2024 releases and more VTT info.

Zotiquest Games are in the Spotlight and interviewed!

There will be loads of social media coverage for the UK Games Expo.

We’re nearly through May and approaching the halfway mark of the year. Around the corner, just at the start of June, Europe’s giant UK Games Expo and Geek Native will be there.

But first, the summary of RPG news summaries!

  • Russ Nicholson has passed away
  • Free League will launch an Aliens RPG tournament
  • Leyline Press cut ties with an editor in an ethics row
  • Ares will release Fantasy World RPG
  • Schwalb Entertainment confirms When the Wolf Comes
  • The second draft of ORC is ready

As a reminder, there’s sometimes activity off-site such as Patreon, Telegram, and there’s an (almost) daily summary story on Instagram of what’s gone on with the blog.

You can, and if possible – should – even subscribe to Geek Native via Apple News. I mean, it only took years to get there. No biggie.

As the witching hour draws close, it’s time to wrap up this introduction.

How was your week, and will this round-up of RPG news make it a bit better? Let’s hope so!

In summary of summaries:

  • The official 5e Lord of the Rings RPG is out
  • BrikWars is getting an official tabletop RPG
  • A gender-neutral DCC edition has been announced
  • AI is coming

Is that all? Well, what can I say? This blogger had a birthday this week, and frankly, helper gremlins had to roll him to his desk after all the birthday cake eaten.

Oh, do you want to know about the matcha, mint cake, and steampunk top design? Sorry, this is an RPG news post, not a place for bragging about tasty baking. Ahem.

We’ve made it to the end of the week, and here in the UK, it’s a long weekend for something that could have come from a game of D&D. We’re crowing a new King.

Maybe there will be knights and dragon attacks?

Let’s not worry about British weirdness; let’s first do our summary of RPG news summaries!

  • A D&D game broke the world record for the largest ever played
  • Jeff Easley’s signature was erased from an Honour Among Thieves poster.
  • KB Presents closes
  • There’s a significantly huge Atlas Games’ Ars Magica 4th Edition bundle

It’s the start of the month, so I can announce that Zotiquest Games won the RPG publisher spotlight.

Patrons can vote in the next round and for the next month. The candidates are:

I’m taking the holiday anyway.

  • You can buy the D&D adventure that broke the Guinness World Record, but can you survive The Dead Wars?
  • Egg noticed that Jeff Easley’s signature had been removed from the Honour Among Thieves poster, and after some angst, we ran the story.
  • IDW Publishing cut into staff, leaving us to wonder, are the D&D comics impacted?
  • VTT challenger One More Multiverse leaves beta and remains free to play.
  • In the Bundle of Holding, there’s an all-new deal on early Traveller FASA books.
  • Better than a bundle? Free! Geek Native patrons are getting The Curse of Er’Mah’Gerd .

What a week! How’s your energy level? Mine is low, and I’ve not even had my house raided by Pinkerton agents.

First, we have the summary of RPG news summaries!

  • Wizards of the Coast use Pinkerton agents.
  • A new revision of Pathfinder is coming.
  • Green Ronin will publish Valiant comic book’s official RPG.
  • D&D has official ducks.

I wrote up the RPG Publisher Spotlight with High Level Games. Josh Heath is an impressive fellow.

It’s nearly the end of the month, and over on the Geek Native Patron, there’s a tie on the votes for two of the nominees. On the shortlist are;

Patrons can vote, and Patrons also will get a first edition Neurocity RPG thanks to Gavriel Quiroga.

Routinely Itemised doesn’t have a section for tech news that might affect RPG publishers, so let me put in here because Adobe, a PDF giant (and owner) that many creators use will now start deleting content from bins.

With that warning out of the way, it’s time to get on with the RPG news!

It’s the first weekend following Scotland’s oldest tabletop gaming convention, so let’s pick up and see what’s up with the RPG news…

First, we have the summary of news summaries!

  • German publisher Ulisses Spiele has bought Sigil Services.
  • Green Ronin picks up Into the Mother Lands.
  • Arby’s sold out of gamer dice.
  • Critical Role announces two new RPG systems.
  • Gloomhaven’s RPG goes heavy with the tabletop minis.

There’s not much of a trend this week, D&D news, of course, some bundle deals, and perhaps the headline is Green Ronin’s rescue of Into The Mother Lands. What caught your eye?

PEG selling Sigil Services to Ulisses Spiele is also interesting, as it shows vibrancy in third-party virtual tabletops despite Hasbro’s edging ever closer to launch. It’s that subscription model that I used to waffle on about.

Kickstarter had elements of bursting activity in that several $15K+ projects launched, and it might have been a big week. However, volume was low, and the average asking price of a campaign is still relatively static. Perhaps the oddness was the number of ‘first-time’ creators asking for reasonably big bucks.

As for Edinburgh’s RPG and tabletop Conpulsion, well, would you believe I did a TikTok supercut?

Oh, it’s the 200th Routinely Itemised RPG news summary. Why did no one send me a cake?

So, that bundle of RPG news summaries!

  • One to highlight is that cancer-suffering Owen K.C. Stephens is raising medical fees with Bundle #1 (saving $723.24 – 95%) and Bundle #2 (saving $728.95 – 95%) (as usual Geek Native will donate in addition to any affiliate fees earned).
  • There’s a Star Trek: Lower Decks Campaign Guide RPG coming.
  • Holostreets opened on DrivethruRPG for third-party publishers to sell Shadowrunk content.
  • There’s still some confusion over what Wizards of the Coast is planning to do with mix-parentage in the next (but no longer One) D&D.

There’s no Geek Native podcast tomorrow, as I’ll be at Edinburgh’s local TTRPG gaming convention – Compulsion.

Watch the blog’s social media for the likely photograph and video spam, sorry, content that I’ll produce. Compared to your big American conventions, though, Compulsion is quaint (and often lovely).

It’s been a week of hard graft from RPG publishers, with Paizo and Kobold pushing ahead with their D&D-not-D&D projects and indies being busy. Kickstarter has had a few cancelled projects, a few big ones, and while that’s spicer than usual, there’s not been much volume.

On the other hand, this news-centric blog rarely gets many blog comments as people read and go, but this week, as you can see in the chat portal, there’s been a few more. That’s always neat to see.
