‘A blessing in disguise’: Marketers on reframing redundancy
Instead of seeing redundancy as a blow to their self-worth, marketers are reclaiming their careers and finding new avenues to thrive.
Richard Clark has never forgotten the critical moment in his career when he was made redundant – nor the person who handed him his cards and the manner in which he did it.
The employer’s parting piece of advice that Clark was “never a marketing manager” only made the firing more painful. It proved an unintentional blessing.
“Whilst at the time I thought it was a horrible thing to say to somebody with a young family, it spurred me on,” Clark wrote in a recent LinkedIn post reflecting on the large number of marketers currently out of work. His boss, it transpired, was wrong.
